German aircraft engine giant MTU to build plant in Serbia

Leading German engines manufacturer MTU Aero Engines has announced plans to build a factory in Serbia’s Belgrade region. The Munich-based company, which specialises in aircraft software, components and engines, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Serbian ministry of economy that will be followed by an agreement in June to begin construction of the new industrial site. The Serbian press reports that the investment is expected to be located near the town of Stara Pazova. “Today is a great day for our country. State-of-the-art aviation industry has arrived in Serbia. One third of aircraft in the whole world has parts made at MTU factories. Serbia is returning to the sky of global and European aviation industry,” said Serbian president Aleksander Vu?i?, adding that his country will provide all necessary resources as well as skilled labour for the project. MTU executive board member Michael Schrey?gg said that his company chose Serbia for its excellent climate for investment and well-trained workforce. “We strongly believe in the capabilities available in the country,” Mr Schrey?gg added, noting that he expects the new plant to become a hub for servicing aircrafts in this part of Europe.
